A PRE-RELEASE BUZZ AND THE VIP LISTENING EVENT
In the days leading up to the album’s release, Ezra built anticipation by holding an exclusive listening session on Metro FM with DJ Sabby on October 23. Giving listeners a first taste of his musical innovation and artistic evolution. Fans across the country were captivated, leaving messages of praise and excitement. Reflecting on the immense support, Ezra shared his gratitude with fans and industry peers: “I am incredibly thankful for everyone who has supported me on this journey. Your love and encouragement mean the world to me, and I can’t wait for you to experience Bayede.”
THE MEANING BEHIND “BAYEDE”
The title Bayede, which translates to “Hail the King” in Zulu, holds significant meaning for Ezra. This term, a historical salutation used for King Shaka Zulu, also happens to be Ezra’s second name. Embracing the title is a nod to his heritage and a declaration of his aspirations in the house music scene. Through Bayede, Ezra aims to establish himself as a household name in house music, while also honoring the legacy of resilience and innovation passed down through South Africa’s rich cultural history.
COLLABORATIONS AND ARTISTIC DEVELOPMENT
Ezra’s musical style has been shaped by a diverse array of influences, from his early days performing in local pubs and clubs to his breakthrough moment on Lockdown House Party on Channel O. After joining forces with industry heavyweights like DJ Oscar Mbo and DJ Luu as part of the group The Goldenboys, Ezra eventually embarked on a solo career. Securing gigs nationwide and building a loyal following.
Ezra credits his current sound to an expansive network of collaborators and mentors. Including big artists such as Kabza De Small, Nkosazana Daughter, and the Disciples of House. For instance, the album’s standout track, “Impi Ye Mpilo,” which features both Nkosazana Daughter and Kabza De Small, highlights Ezra’s dedication to blending various sounds and styles. Reflecting on his approach to collaboration, Ezra explains: “I did something with the Disciples of House, then I went to Kabza De Small for him to polish it a bit—and you know Kabza!” he chuckles. It’s this continuous collaboration that has enabled him to experiment and evolve his style.
When asked by Abuti Lolo during the VIP event what the album meant to him, Ezra’s response was heartfelt: “It’s my debut album, so it means everything to me. In 2023, I didn’t release anything because I wasn’t in the right energy. I felt I didn’t have the right team to push my music.” However, his fortunes turned around when he met Rea, who introduced him to Skhulile. Eventually leading to his signing with Gamma Music in Los Angeles. This collaboration marked a pivotal turning point in his career. Providing him with the support system he needed to bring Bayede to life.
