HEAT, HYPE AND HISTORY: INSIDE THE RED BULL DANCE YOUR STYLE QUALIFIERS

The Red Bull Dance Your Style tour has officially ignited South Africa’s dance calendar, and Yanos Plug has been right at the heart of it.

As the official media partner for Red Bull Dance Your Style, The Yanos Plug was invited to join the national tour. We pulled up to the opening stretch of the movement, the Gqeberha and Cape Town qualifiers, and what we witnessed was more than competition. It was culture in motion.

Red Bull Dance Your Style is not your typical battle. It is a one-on-one, all-styles street dance competition where musicality, personality and adaptability decide who rules the floor. The format is simple but ruthless. Unpredictable music. No rehearsed routines. Two dancers. One winner. And the audience decides.

The DJ controls the energy. The crowd controls the outcome.

Gqeberha Sets the Tone

On Saturday, 7 February, the tour kicked off in Gqeberha, and the energy was undeniable. Despite the heat pushing everyone to their limits, the dancers came ready. The cyphers were electric. The crowd was loud. The stakes were real.

From the jam session to the top 16 selection, the level was intense. Every round demanded versatility. Amapiano could switch to hip-hop. Hip-hop could flip into house. You either adapted or you exited.

The final battle became a family affair. Mason “Beasty” Booysen, just 17 years old, went head-to-head with his brother Spidey in a moment that felt cinematic. The crowd roared. The tension was thick. And when the final votes came through, Beasty took the win.

He now advances to the National Final, representing his province with momentum and serious confidence.

What stood out was not just his technique, but his presence. Beasty didn’t just dance. He owned the moment.

Cape Town Raises the Bar

Sunday, 8 February at 1 pm, the tour moved to Cape Town, and the energy shifted to rooftop heat.

Hosted at The Terrace Rooftop in Salt River, more than 40 dancers entered the cypher, battling for a place in the top 16. The format remained ruthless. One-on-one. Unpredictable music. Audience vote deciding every round.

The event was hosted by Mel Rock, whose presence kept the crowd fully engaged as the battles intensified.

The final round saw Delron Davids face off against Tyler Botha in a gripping head-to-head. Delron Davids, a 26-year-old dancer from Johannesburg, emerged victorious after commanding the floor with confidence and versatility. With this win, he now advances to the National Finals on 28 March 2026 in Bloemfontein, where he will represent Cape Town on the national stage.
