Naledi Aphiwe Myongwane, professionally known as Naledi Aphiwe, is a South African singer-songwriter who has captured many’s hearts with incredible talent and determination. Born on December 15, 2006, in the vibrant township of eNanda Newtown A, KwaZulu-Natal, Naledi’s roots are firmly planted in a family with a deep love for music. THE GENESIS OF A STAR

Naledi’s musical journey began within the familiar walls of her school, Khethokuhle Secondary School, A turning point came when a teacher captured a video of her singing alongside her classmates. Initially nervous about being reprimanded, Naledi was instead encouraged to continue, and the clip was shared online. The video went viral on social media, bringing widespread attention to her beautiful vocals and setting the stage for her blooming musical career.

“I was in my classroom during examinations, but that day we were not doing anything. We decided to sing, and our class teacher came inside. We were scared he would shout, but instead, he told us to carry on. If it were not for my teacher, I wouldn’t be able to fulfil my dreams,” she recalls

A LIFE-CHANGING ENCOUNTER WITH CHRIS BROWN

Naledi’s life changed dramatically in 2022 when international R&B superstar Chris Brown stumbled upon her singing on TikTok. Impressed by her talent, he shared a video of her on his Instagram stories, describing her voice as “incredible.” This interaction led to Naledi being sampled on “Shooter,” a track from Brown’s 2023 studio album 11:11. For her contribution, she received a writing credit and earned $3,000 (approximately R56,207). Reflecting on the experience, Naledi said, “Chris Brown did what I would have never done. He chose a child from a small city like mine. I appreciate him so much. It has changed my home situation. Everything is good now.”

The biggest highlight of her career so far? Meeting Chris Brown in person during his record-breaking two-night concert at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa. With each night drawing 90,000 fans, Chris Brown made history, and Naledi was part of the moment. The encounter reaffirmed her belief in dreams coming true. 

“Meeting Chris Brown was surreal. He believed in my voice before the world knew my name. I’ll never forget it,” and he smells amazing, she shared excitedly. 

EARLY ACHIEVEMENTS

Since her discovery, Naledi has been unstoppable. She wrapped up her matric year in 2024 with outstanding results while juggling a skyrocketing music career. That same year, she earned multiple nominations at the Basadi in Music Awards, winning Soft ‘n Free Pop Artist of the Year. Her heartfelt singles “Uyangijabulisa” featuring Nomfundo Moh and Fezeka Dlamini, and “Ngiyabonga”, reflect her storytelling ability and commitment to authenticity in her music. 

LOOKING TO THE FUTURE

Since her debut, Naledi has performed at various gigs and participated in numerous interviews, steadily growing her fan base. With over 600K Instagram followers, she has become a social media sensation, using her platform to connect with fans and release new music.
