“Athleisure With a Pop of Orange”: Inside the Cheetos Varsity Sports Launch

When a global snack giant decides to take over university sports, you know the kickoff event is going to be a movie. The recent Cheetos Varsity Sports Launch completely transformed the scene into an electrifying orange playground, officially announcing the brand’s new role as the Snack Partner for the 2026 Varsity Football season and a massive upcoming four-year relationship that extends into Varsity Cup.

Hosted by the energetic Siyamthanda Jwacu, the event proved that the intersection of sports, music, and fashion is where the real culture lives.
A Heavyweight Musical Lineup
You cannot celebrate a cultural shift without the right soundtrack. The launch event brought out some serious heavy hitters to keep the energy at a peak. Guests were treated to headline performances from the powerhouse DJ duo Ponahalo Mojapelo and Nkuley Masemola, who served incredible looks while setting the tone for the night.

They were joined by YFM’s very own LesediTheDJ and rising Afro-tech star DJ Oara, ensuring the musical vibes perfectly matched the high-energy nature of university sports.
Serving Looks: The Celebrity Guest List

The Rise of the Cheetos Playmakers
Beyond the fashion and the music, the core of the Cheetos Varsity Sports Launch was all about the fans. The brand is introducing “Cheetos Playmakers”—a movement dedicated to celebrating the superfans who make campus sports so unpredictable and passionate.

Thato Tloubatla, Brand Manager for Cheetos & Simba at PepsiCo South Africa, explained the vision perfectly:
“Sport is always more exciting when the fans bring the energy. Through Cheetos Playmakers, we’re celebrating the superfans who make sports so special and we are thrilled to partner with them to bring that playful energy to campuses all around the country.”
This sentiment was heavily echoed by Lisa Roux, Sponsorship Manager for Varsity Sports, who noted that Cheetos’ appetite for campus engagement makes them a “natural fit for two properties driven by that same energy.”
As the Varsity Football season officially kicks off, fans can expect the brand’s signature Can’t Hide The Fun spirit to hit universities nationwide through massive campus activations, deep fan engagement, and exclusive rewards for the most playful fans in the stands.
