The latest edition of Yanos Plug IG Live was nothing short of electrifying as we welcomed the talented Amapiano duo straight out of Tshwane, 015 MusiQ & Van City MusiQ! These self-taught hitmakers have been steadily climbing the ranks in the Amapiano scene, captivating audiences with tracks like “Miam 2.0,” “Bush Bethu,” and their latest anthem, “Thola Umuntu”. During our engaging live session, the duo opened up about their journey, creative process, industry challenges, and future ambitions.
WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
Kicking off the conversation, 015 MusiQ & Van City MusiQ shared the story of how their partnership came to be. The two met in school in 2015 but only discovered their shared musical chemistry in 2019. However, it was during the COVID-19 lockdown that their skills were truly sharpened, as they dedicated their time solely to crafting music. The commitment and hard work they put in during those days have carried them through to where they are today.
When asked what sets their sound apart in the highly competitive Amapiano space, the duo confidently pointed to their unique blend of Amapiano, Bacardi beats, and Maskandi influences. More than just the sound, their music carries powerful messages that resonate with fans.
THE MAKING OF “THOLA UMUNTU” & MUSICAL PROCESS
A major highlight of the session was their latest release, “Thola Umuntu,” featuring OHP Sage and Veyana. The duo described how the collaboration was built on genuine friendship. “OHP Sage and Veyana are like family,” they shared. “We developed a strong bond even before making music together, so when we create, everything feels natural.”
Diving into their creative process, they revealed that as a duo of producers, they crafted the beat while Veyana conceptualized the lyrics, fueled by his personal experiences at the time. “Veyana was single, so he was hoping maybe after this track, he’d finally find someone,” they joked, referencing the song’s catchy hook, “vele ngizomthola umuntu.”
When it comes to evolving their sound, they emphasized the importance of unpredictability. “We don’t want to bore people with the same thing, so we always try to bring a fresh style to every track.”

DREAM COLLABORATIONS & GLOBAL ASPIRATIONS
While they have already made significant strides in the industry, 015 MusiQ & Van City MusiQ have their eyes set on working with some of the biggest names in the game. Their dream collaborations include Young Stunna, Focalistic, and Nigerian sensation Asake.
Since signing with Makhates Productions in May, they have experienced tremendous growth, releasing new music and music videos. “Things are moving, and we love it,” they expressed enthusiastically.
Beyond South Africa, they are setting their sights on international markets, “Our music needs to go global. South Africa alone is not enough, we want the world to hear our sound.”
As Amapiano continues to dominate worldwide, the duo acknowledged the unpredictability of the genre’s evolution. “If we’re being honest, nobody knows the next step. Only God knows. But as long as we keep pushing and delivering good music, we believe we are the next big thing.”
SURPRISING FACTS & RITUALS
Fans got a chance to learn some unexpected facts about the duo: 015 MusiQ is a dancer, while Van City MusiQ is actually a vocalist! When asked to describe their music in three words, they chose “Bacardi, Amapiano, and Soulful.”
Their ultimate pre-performance ritual? “Hubbly!” they laughed. “Believe it or not, it makes us more productive. It’s like meditation. Where there’s smoke, there’s fire, and we need that smoke to make fire music.”
As for their favourite Amapiano dance move, they named it the “Scotts Maphuma dance.” “It’s simple, and you won’t even sweat!”
NEW MUSIC & 2025 PLANS
For those eager to stream “Thola Umuntu,” the duo confirmed that it is available on all digital streaming platforms. As for what’s next, fans can expect a brand-new EP in 2025, with plenty of fresh, exciting sounds on the way.
