Mia is a rising musician whose unique style blends a range of different genres to create a sound that is all her own. With her debut single “What is Love” gaining recognition and positive attention, Mia is quickly making a name for herself in the music industry. In this interview, Mia shares her perspective on the importance of authenticity in the music industry, drawing from her own experiences as an up-and-coming artist. From her early beginnings in music to overcoming challenges as a new artist, Mia offers valuable insights for aspiring musicians looking to make their mark in the industry.

Early Beginnings and Music Inspiration

Can you tell us about your journey in the music industry and how you got started?

I feel like I’ve been doing music for my literal whole life so I can’t really pinpoint my exact starting point but I feel like I got my recognition when I started my TikTok page and as it gained more traction, I started getting dm’s and emails from people who were in the industry and I guess that’s how it all started.

What inspired you to write your debut single ‘What is Love’ and what message do you hope to convey through your music?

When I wrote, “What is love?” I just genuinely wanted to know how it felt for men to be in love and so I asked a couple of male friends and family members to tell me how they felt and their responses are what the song came out to be. With my music, I’m just trying to allow people to feel what they genuinely feel as unfiltered, authentic, and unapologetic as possible.

Your music blends a range of different genres, how would you describe your musical style?

I’d describe my music as hybrid RNB or ‘HyRNB’ if you will, as my type of music is a fusion of different elements such as Neo-soul, Amapiano, Hip Hop, 80s RnB/Pop, and more.

Who are some of your biggest musical influences and why?

My top 3 musical influences are:

  • Beyoncé for her vocal range, vocal power, breath control, dance ability, work ethic, and the way she carries herself, I mean I could go on and on.
  • D’Angelo because of the way he appreciates every single piece/element that is involved in his music creation and how he lets everything involved be recognized, e.g bass, drums. I also love the way he does his background vocals.
  • Jazmine Sullivan because she is just a beast vocally and she has influenced the way I attack certain songs and the way I sing in general.

Creating a Unique Musical Style

What do you think sets you apart from other artists in the industry and how do you bring your own unique flair to your music?

What sets me apart is the fact that I don’t have a niche sound which means you can’t expect to hear the same sound from me over and over again. I feel like how I bring my own unique flair through my harmonies.

Can you walk us through your creative process when it comes to writing and producing your music?

Every song is different because every song comes from a different experience and a different mindset. Sometimes I find a beat on YT and try to write about something I was thinking about that day. Sometimes I just go on GarageBand and create a loop with some bass, drums, and harmonies and see how the loop makes me feel, then I write something based on that feeling. It all differs.

Overcoming Challenges as a New Artist

How do you handle the pressures of being a new artist in the industry and what advice would you give to others looking to break into the music scene?

I just try to keep myself grounded, focused on goals, and trust that everything that happens is within God’s plan. To people who are trying to break into the industry, I’d just tell them to be their authentic selves and never try to be anyone else but themselves. One important factor is to get yourself out there. Start a YouTube channel, TikTok page, or Insta page, and post your stuff everywhere so that more people can see your talent and be consistent with it.

What has been the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far in your musical career and how did you overcome it?

I’d say in the beginning stages it was the self-doubt, just thinking about whether I’m good enough to be where I am, but I overcame that just by realizing that no one gets anywhere just by chance and I realized that everyone’s journey is different and that I should be proud of mine.

Upcoming Projects and Future Goals

Your debut single ‘What is Love’ has been receiving a lot of positive attention, what’s next for you in terms of new music and upcoming projects?

There definitely is more music coming up in a couple of months maybe weeks and I am planning on releasing my debut EP this year too so be on the lookout for that.

Finally, what message do you have for your fans who are eagerly awaiting your debut single and who are excited to see what you have in store for the future?

I’ll just say I hope they are ready for me!

As Mia continues to create and share her music with the world, she remains committed to staying true to herself and her unique style. With upcoming projects and her debut EP on the horizon, fans can expect more exciting things to come from this rising musician.
